Tui-Na Massage

What is Tui-Na Massage?

Tui-Na massage, which has been used in China for over 200 years, is a rapidly increasing therapy in this country. It is a system which employs both massage and maniupulation techniques used to relive pain, but can also be effective in the treatment of common ailments usch as:

  • Asthma
  • Sciatica
  • Back Pain
  • Insomnia
  • IBS and much more

Tui-Na massage can also help with many other heralth issues such as:

  • Stress Management
  • Sports Injuries
  • Immune System Boosting
  • General Well Being

Tui-Na literally means 'push' and 'grasp' and its invigorating and re-energising style focuses depp pressure and movement along the body's energy and acupuncture meridians.

A stimulation of these meridians, including the acupuncture points can release the imbalance and blockages, restoring a balanced flow to promote health and vitality.

Tui-Na makes use of many different strokes that are applied to acupoints, channels and muscle groups. Most importantly, Tui-Na is a physical expression of the flow of Qi (pronounced 'Chee') energy from one human being to another. Tender points on the back can be a sign that energy is not reaching certain organs. Also increasing the flow of Qi can help in a preventative way.

What can I expect?

In a typical session the client will lie on a couch. The major focus of application is upon the specific pain sites, acupressure points, energy meridians, muscles and joints. The client usually feels re-vitalised by the treatment.

This starts with a stimulating head and neck massage, moving along the acupuncture points and the main meridians including the gall bladder, bladder and Du-Mai. Then moves onto the stress points across the shoulders and along the spine and back:

  • Increasing Circulation
  • Aiding Detoxification
  • Channelling Energy along the Spine

The legs are next, flexing the knees and ankles to stimulate more meridians and acupuncture points as well as going through to the tips of the toes.

The arms are treated in very much the same way - flexing elbows, wrists, hands and fingers to the very tips, always following the flow of Yin and Yang through the body.

And finally moving onto the back, working on the spine once again, where the feeling of heat and energy can be felt coursing through and along the spine.

Leaving you with a feeling of calm and relaxation ... which has caused many clients to fall asleep at the end of these therapies!
